BRENEMAN

Charles Allen Breneman Jr., age 77 of Livingston, passed away on December 29, 2004.  Mr. Breneman is survived by his son, Kenneth Allen Breneman; daughters, Wanda Gail Cochran and husband Pat, and Patti Sue Landry; brother, Marvin Breneman; sisters, Nelda Fay Wendt, Bernice Weaver, Barbara Wendt, and Inez Fundling; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 30, 2004 from 5 – 8pm at Canon Funeral Home Chapel.   Funeral Services will be Friday, December 31, 2004 at 2:00pm at Canon Funeral Home with Reverend Evelyn Cox officiating.  Interment will follow at Fieldstore Cemetery.

McCONNELL

Nina McConnell (Aunt Nina) 99, of Edna, died December 28, 2004.

She had lived for many years with Ralph and Joan Burgess of Edna.

She was born January 14, 1905 in the Southern part of Milam County near Thorndale to the late Ervin and Leona Survant.  She was one of twelve students to graduate from Thorndale High School in 1923 where she was class valedictorian and is the oldest surviving Thorndale ex-student.  Using a scholarship, she received a teaching certificate from Mary Hardin Baylor at Belton, Texas.  Her first assignment was teaching in a ward school in the Sharp School District in Milam County.  There were 19 students through the 5th grade.  Attending classes at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos in the Summer and later full time, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in 1933 and later a Master’s degree from the University of Houston.  Mrs. McConnell ended her 34 year teaching career in Hempstead but had taught in several Texas school districts.

Nina was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Retired Teachers’ Association of Texas, Jackson County Retired Teachers’ Association, The First Baptist Church of Edna and was a faithful member of her Sunday School Class and Wednesday night fellowship before entering Care Inn of Edna.

Survivors: sister, Alice Davis of Dallas; nieces, Joan Burgess of Edna, Betty Jo Stewart of Bellaire, Bobbie Mardis and husband Gerald of Bay City, Neva J. Orton of San Luis Obispo, California; nephews, Hardie Davis and wife Jane of Kingwood, and Frank Green and wife Sherry of Angleton, TX; and numerous great nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by husband, Alton Truman McConnell; brothers, Ervin Survant, Frank Survant, and Bill Survant; sisters, Neva Umangst and Glorice Green; and nephew, Ralph W. Burgess.

Graveside Services to be held at 10:30am, Friday, December 31, 2004 at Fieldstore Cemetery in Waller, TX under the direction of Canon Funeral Home of Waller.  Reverends Danny P. Reeves and  Joe McClanahan of The First Baptist Church of Edna, Texas officiating.

SURVANT

Robert Edwin Survant, age 92 of Waller, passed away on December 20, 2004 at Grimes St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Navasota.   He is survived by his sister, Edna Goette; and nephew, James Goette and wife Cathy.  Viewing will be Thursday morning, Dec. 23rd from 8–10am followed by a funeral service at 10:30am.  Interment will follow at Fieldstore Cemetery.

FEAGIN

John Denton Feagin III died peacefully at his home on Monday, December 20, 2004, after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Hempstead, Texas, on June 20, 1955 and was a graduate of Cy-Fair High School, class of 1973.  John worked for Watson Grinding and Manufacturing of Houston Texas. 

Survived by his wife, Karen; daughter Kay Lynn, her husband Kris Price, and three grandchildren, Kara, Kristofer and Kody; his parents Mr. and Mrs. Jim Feagin; brothers Jay Moerbe, Kyle and wife Drenda Moerbe, Layne and wife Loni Moerbe, and sister Tamara and husband Anthony Taber. He was much loved by numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his paternal Grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Feagin of Hempstead, Texas, and his aunt Chrystal Weaver. He will be missed by many  friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 22, 2004 from 5 - 8pm at Canon Funeral Home Chapel, 1420 Farr Street in Waller, Texas. Funeral Services will be Thursday, December 23, 2004 at 2:00pm at Canon Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hempstead Cemetery.

John was an avid sportsman.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Texas Parks & Wildlife Foundation to teach children about park wildlife and safety.

KING

Rodney Lee King, age 51 of Tomball, passed away on December 14, 2004.  Mr. King is preceded in death by his father, Roy Salyards; and is survived by his wife, Bobbie King; mother, Mary Salyards; mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Storm; son, Jack Harget; daughters, Cathy Deleon and Laura Higgs; step-children, Thomas, Michael and Alan Elliott, and Joey Livingston; brothers, Allen Salyards and Stephen Worcester; sisters, Joan McKnight and Debbie Worcester; and 9 grandchildren.

Jo Ann Taylor, age 62of Hempstead passed away on December 10, 2004.  Ms. Taylor is preceded in death by her father, Albert Mellman; and brother, Scott Fredrick Taylor; and is survived by her mother, Thelma Mellman; sons, Steve Taylor and wife Jo, and Keith Taylor; brothers, William Mellman and Johnnie Mellman; sisters, Rose Arther and Pauline Roach; and 3 grandchildren, Michael Brodey Taylor, Logan Drew Taylor, and Bailey Diane Taylor.

Susie Rosemarie Woods, age 47 of Hockley, passed away on December 6, 2004.  Mrs. Woods is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Nagy; her life partner and loving husband Oddman Woods Jr.; step sons, Oddman Woods III and Joey Lee Woods; brothers, Leslie Nagy and wife Magda, Tomas Nagy and wife Emily, Henry Nagy and wife Bonnie, Adrian Nagy and wife Tracie, Walter Nagy and wife Frances, and David Nagy; sisters, Judy Enciso and husband John, Jackie Fitzgerald and husband John, Cynthia Miller and husband Cory, and Laura Urban and husband Chris; and 5 grandchildren.

Bernice Ferguson, age 74 of Hempstead, passed away on November 28, 2004.  Mrs. Ferguson is preceded in death by her sister, Eunice Mitchel; and is survived by her daughter, Beth Crowhurst and husband Kyle; sisters, Bea Horn and Mae Prince; granddaughter, Beverly Bell and Roy Garrett; and great grandchildren, Renee Lillegard, and Jonathan Schneider.

ELLISON

Howard Ellison age 91 of Pine Island, TX passed away Wednesday November 24, 2004 at home.  Mr. Ellison is survived by his wife of 41 years Wessie Ellison; daughters, Susan Windham and Peggy Powley.  Mr. Ellison was an accountant for Hughs Tool Co. for 47 years and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.  Graveside services will be held on Saturday Nov. 27, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. in Hempstead Cemetery with pastor Jeffrey Marsh officiating.

NORTH

Josephine Elizabeth North, age 87 of Waller, passed away on November 16, 2004.  Mrs. North is survived by her husband, Edward North; sons, A.C. Ebarb, Logan Ebarb and wife Donna, Bobby Joe Ebarb and wife Sandy, Carl Ebarb and wife Donne, James Michael Ebarb, Johnny Wayne Dixon, Jerry Logan Dixon, and wife Judy; daughters, Maurine Bannister, Sherry Carpenter and husband Joe, Kathy Melinda Wilson and husband Donnie, and Margie Nell Calvert; 34 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Ronald Lee Tandy, age 69 of Waller, passed away on November 14, 2004.  Mr. Tandy is preceded in death by his father, Chet Tandy; and is survived by his mother, Valda Durham; wife, Darlene Tandy; sons, Gene Tandy and Billy Tandy; daughter, Mary Jane Tandy; brother, Mike Tandy; and six grandchildren.

DINKINS

David Dinkins, age 44 of Houston, passed away on November 2, 2004.  Mr. Dinkins is preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn Dinkins; and is survived by his aunts and uncle, Kenneth and Donnie Hines, and Marie Hollar; brother, Glenn Dinkins and wife Lydia; and nieces and nephews, Christopher and Elizabeth.

BRUNER

Aline Louise Bruner, age 72 of Waller, passed away on November 1, 2004.  Mrs. Bruner is preceded in death by her parents, John and Emily Rustenbach; and daughter, Shirley Hedrick; and is survived by her husband, W.D. “Coot” Bruner; son, John Bruner; daughters, Linda Eichhorn and husband Jay, and Mary Byer and husband Bill; son-in-law, Billy Hedrick; sister, Edna Fuchs; and grandchildren, Emily, Hannah, Tara, Scott, Rachel, Andrew, and Kasey.

KELLEY

On Friday, Oct. 29, 2004 our beloved mother left us to be with our Heavenly Father.  Madie Ruth Kelley, 80, was born on April 16, 1924, in San Saba County.  Her life was a constant tribute to her family.  She is a mother who taught great values and will live in our hearts forever.  Her children (all in the Houston area) are Bill Kelley * Donna Hines; Janie Kelley; Larry & Peggy Kelley; Sharon & Art Board; Leeman Jr. & Lucinda Kelley; and Dianne & Keith Moore.  She was blessed with 19 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.  She is survived by 2 sisters in San Antonio, Betsy Adams and Cly Del Howard and a brother, Pat Lane of Fort Worth.  Madie Ruth was preceded in death by her mother, Georgia Grace Bickley, her father, Russell Lane, & Stepmother Lois Lane.  Family visitation will be Monday, November 1, 2004 from 6:00 – 9:00pm, and services will be Tuesday, November 2nd at 10:00am at Canon Funeral Home in Waller.  Interment will follow at Waller City Cemetery.

LLOYD

Reverend G. Ray Lloyd, age 77 of Waller, passed away on October 26, 2004.  G. Ray was called to the Methodist ministry in 1963 and served churches in the Texas Conference.  He is survived by his wife, Betty Lloyd; sons, Mike Lloyd and wife Leslie, and Tim Lloyd; daughters, Sandra Lloyd Dodd and husband Charles, Susan Winfree and husband Travis, and Tammy Haley and husband Terry; stepchildren, David Prewitt and wife Margaret, and Karen Sarver and husband Dirk; grandsons, Rodney, Steven, Kevin, Jason, and Clint; granddaughters, Renee, Susanne, Alicia, Christi, Traci, Jennifer, and Haley; 15 great grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; and 9 step great grandchildren.

KERSH

Robert Lynden Kersh, age 35 of Hempstead, passed away on October 24, 2004.  Robert is survived by his parents, Lynden and Elaine Kersh; grandmother, Faye Estes; sister, Phyllis Noelle Gonzales and husband Ricky; uncles, Billy Kersh and Michael Kersh and wife Jeanne; aunt, Myra Verneuil; nephews, Ryan, Dustin, and Austin Gonzales; niece, Kaytlin Gonzales; and numerous other relatives and friends.

BASKIN

Ruth Helen Baskin, 99, passed away on October 20, 2004 in Atascocita, TX.  She was born October 5, 1905 in Victoria, TX.  Ruth grew up in the Houston Heights and graduated from Heights High School.  During the 1930’s and World War II she, her husband, Carrol, and their five children lived in the Garden Villas subdivision of Houston.  In 1946, the family moved to the Fieldstore Community in Waller County where she lived until 1999.  Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, John R. Williams and Effie Williams; her only brother and all three sisters; daughter, Patsy Ruth Burns; son-in-law, Milton Krause; and husband, Thomas Carrol Baskin.  She is survived by son, Thomas Carrol Baskin, Jr. and his wife Augustine of Waller; daughter, Nancy Krause of Brenham; son, John Baskin of Atascocita; son, George Baskin and his wife Sally of Atascocita; and numerous grand children, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Visitation will be Saturday, October 23, 2004 from 10:30am – 12:00pm at Canon Funeral Home Chapel in Waller.  A Graveside Service will be held that same day at 1:00pm at Hempstead Cemetery.

Elsie Louise Peterson, age 78 of Waller, passed away on October 16, 2004.  Mrs. Peterson is preceded in death by her husband, Thelbert Winford Peterson; and is survived by her sons, Norman Peterson and wife Jan, and Barry Peterson and wife Sherry; daughter, Pamela Filiator and husband Don; sister, Ramona Huffman; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

TONES

George E. Tones, Jr. (Buddy), age 78, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather went to be with our Lord on October 9, 2004 at his home in Grimes County.  He was born on February 17, 1926 to George E. Tones, Sr. and Ida M. Adams of Waco, TX.  George was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, the East Gate Masonic Lodge # 1153, and Shriner Scottish Rite.  Upon moving to Houston, TX he married his beloved wife of 58 years.  He retired from Port Terminal Railroad Association (PTRA) after many years of service.  He is preceded in death by his parents; and is survived by his loving wife, Billie Jo Tones of Navasota, TX; sister, Betty Dawdy of Livingston, TX; 5 sons, George E. Tones III, Ralph T. Tones, Dennis J. Tones, Donald G. Tones, Paul R. Tones, and their spouses; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Alvin F. Mutschink, age 78 of Houston, passed away on October 5, 2004.  Mr. Mutschink is survived by his sister, Gladys Mae Ardlt; and grandchildren, Kristy and Keith Lynch.

JANSEN

Lois Edith (Ross) Jansen, age 82 of Hockley, passed away on October 4, 2004 at Tomball Regional Hospital.  Mrs. Jansen was born December 27, 1921 in Hastings, Oklahoma the daughter of Led and Ella (Hall) Ross.  She was married on March 28, 1942 to Melvin Jansen.  Surviving her are her daughter, Betty Roch and husband Royce of Hockley; sons, Melvin W. Jansen of Hockley, and Roger L. Jansen of Huffman; 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Jansen; daughter, Deloris Jane McLemore; and 11 brothers and sisters.

Kathleen Helen Butler, age 73, of Spring, Texas, passed away on October 2, 2004.   Mrs. Butler was born in Massapequa Park, Long Island, New York and moved to Texas in 1978.  Mrs. Butler is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard; and brother, John; and is survived by her sons, Bernard James Butler and wife Debra, Michael Thomas Butler and wife Eileen, Steven Richard Butler, Mark Patrick Butler and wife Trina, Terrance Joseph Butler and wife Kristi; brother, James MacGilvray and wife Mary; sister, Leah Murray and husband Jerry; grandchildren: Michael and Sean Butler; Christopher, Nicholas, and Daniel Butler and their mother, Ellen; and Steven, Trent, and Bryant Butler; step-grandchildren: Dalton Rosenbaum, and Sheron and Shawn Gunaratne and their mother, Ginger Hodges; great grandchildren, Zoe and James Butler; and also many loving nieces and nephews.

Carl F. “Freddie” Bueckner III, age 55 of Hempstead, passed away on October 1, 2004.   Mr. Bueckner is preceded in death by his mother, Loretta Ast Bueckner and sister, Carlyne Jamail and  is survived by father, Carl F. Bueckner II and wife Flossie; son, Codie Bueckner; daughter, Carrie Petrich and husband Shannon; grandchildren, Blaine and Kolbe Petrich; beloved family and friends, Debbie Helton, Candy Schild, Michelle Miller, Ray and  Cindy Quinn and many others.

SOBIESKI

Christopher Jerome Sobieski went to his heavenly rewards early Sunday morning doing the thing he loved best – being a Police Officer.  He died in the line of duty when his patrol car caught fire after a speeder hit it from behind.  The accident occurred on highway 290 near Prairie View.  He was a member of the Prairie View Police Department for the past three years.  He is survived by his wife, Romney; grandmother, Hortense Sievers; and parents, John and Millie Sobieski, both of Seguin; sister, Shari Dixon and husband Mike; their children, Rachelle, Jaclyn and Zachary of Lakeway, Clinton and his wife Amanda, and daughter Aubrey of Norfolk, Virginia; and step-brother, Cecil Dean of Hempstead.  Services will be held with a Rosary and Memorial Service in Waller, TX at 7:00pm on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004 Canon Funeral Home Chapel.  A Funeral Mass will be Friday, October 1, 2004 at 10:00am at St. James Catholic Church in Seguin, TX with Monsignor Darilek officiating.  Inurnment of the ashes will follow at 1:15pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX.  In lieu of flowers please make donations in his name to his second love, the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), 900 Portway Dr., Houston, TX 77024.

GURROLA

Steve Paul Gurrola, age 79 of Hempstead passed away September 24, 2004.  Mr. Gurrola leaves behind to cherish his memory, Four sons: Steve Paul Gurrola Jr., James Hickson, Brian Hickson, and Patrick Gurrola, Two daughters: Darla Montalvo and Stephanie Gurrola, Two brothers: Martin Gurrola and Victor Gurrola, Five sisters: Mary Ybarra, Josie Gurrola, Janie Arnold, Stella Gurrola, and Rebecca Gurrola.  14 Grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his brother, Sam Gurrola.  Visitation will be held on Monday, September 27, 2004 from 5-8 pm in the Chapel of Canon Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 7:00 pm.  Funeral Mass will be held at St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church at 10:00 am., Tuesday, September 28, 2004.  Rite of Committal to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Tamara Michele Shelby, age 43 of Waller, passed away on September 12, 2004. Mrs. Shelby is survived by her mother, Ada Speights; husband, Marcus Shelby; father-in-law, Evin H. MERTEN

Lou Addie Keilberg Merten a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away at the age of 90 on September 6, 2004 at Kings Daughter Hospital in Temple, Texas. Lou was born on April 2, 1914 in Hempstead, Texas. She married Jesse Merten September 9, 1940 in Hempstead. Hempstead was always her home having worked, lived, loved and raised her family there. In 1997 she moved to live near her daughters in the central Texas area.

She is survived by her daughters, Zolene Styers and husband Lamar of Westphalia, Texas; Sue Barkley and husband Tommy, of Westphalia, Texas and her son Wayne Merten and wife Louise, of Hempstead, Texas. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Zollie Thomas of Pasadena, numerous nieces, nephews and loving family associations. She is preceded in death by her husband Jesse Merten, granddaughters Dana Styers Thompson and Marla Sue Styers, 3 brothers and 1 sister.

CANTRELL

Marcus Cantrell of Waller, Texas, was born in Henrietta, Oklahoma on August 8, 1924, and passed away on August 23, 2004 at the age of 80. 

Mr. Cantrell graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He served proudly in the U. S. Army during WWII and was in Germany at the Battle of the Bulge.

Marc worked for Ingersoll-Rand, Pacific Pumps and Crane Packing Company and retired in 1968 to pursue  a lifelong dream of becoming a grass farmer.  Marc was a true pioneer in the field of agriculture.  He took delivery of the first Vermeer big round hay baler ever shipped to a farmer anywhere in the world.  He raised cattle and he became an expert on growing Tifton 85 grass. Marc was never afraid to dream and his life is a testimony to what dreaming, goal setting and hard work can accomplish.

Marc is survived by Barbara, his wife of 40 years; cousins Wanda Strain and Mary Ellen Wood of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Loucille Shelton of Midwest City, Oklahoma and Katie Schexnayder of North Little Rock Arkansas; sister- and brother-in-law Audrey and Ed Suchicki and their son, Steven; nephew, Greg Savage and wife, Denise and their children, Jason, Kelly and Natalie; his beloved dog, Buddy; godchild, Cheyenne Abke; and a host of friends and relatives.

ROBINSON

Arthur Garfield “Red” Robinson passed away Monday, August 9, 2004 at the age of 92.  A resident of Waller County, Red truly enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest.  He was born in Salt Lake City, graduated from Horace Mann High School in Gary, Indiana, hitchhiked around the United States before settling in Houston, where he met and married his wife of 60 years, LaVerne Oatis.  Red served 4 years in the Army Air Corp during WWII reaching 1st Sergeant in 9 months.  He founded Robinson Public Warehouse in 1958 and operated it until his retirement in the late 70’s.   In 1973, they moved to the “country” where he added cattle rancher to his resume.  Red was active in his church, supported local FFA & 4H projects, sponsored scramble calves at the HLS&R, and enjoyed playing golf.  He loved dancing, working around the ranch, and having coffee with the guys.   Some knew him as “Red”, the  “Candy Man”, or “Oney”, but all knew him as a shrewd businessman, generous friend with a quick wit, and well-loved husband, father and grandfather. Red Robinson is survived by his devoted wife, LaVerne; son, Charles Robinson and wife Pam; Carol Mullins and husband Britt; grandchildren, Stephen Robinson, Stacey Robinson-Gardner, Russell Betts, and Travis Betts; and great-grandson, Weston Robinson.  Visitation will be Wednesday August 11, 2004 from 6 – 8 pm at Canon Funeral Home Chapel in Waller.  Funeral services will be Thursday, August 12, 200410:00 am at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 811 14th St.Hempstead with Father Bob Moore officiating. Frank Winder Bracewell, age 78 of Waller, passed away on June 29, 2004.  Mr. Bracewell served his country in the U.S. Navy and Merchant Marines.  He was in residential construction in Houston and the surrounding areas for 35 years.  He also owned and operated a large ranch in Frio County, Texas for 20 or more years.  He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and wildlife conservationist.  A gentleman of sterling qualities, he was a friend to all who knew him.

Trussy Bruney, age 83 passed away on June 5, 2004 in Tomball, TX.  Mrs. Bruney was born in Ville Platte, Louisiana.  She moved to Brookshire, Texas in 1951 and lived in the surrounding area until retirement in Waller County in 1983.

WEIR

Christy Lynn Weir, 51, of Victoria (formerly of Lake McQueeney), went to be with the Lord on May 25, 2004, to join her beloved mother, father, and son in heaven.

Christy was born to John G. Weir Jr. and Ruby Lee Weir on November 25, 1952.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, John Thomas Weir Bourland.  She is survived by her daughter, Christy Virginia Smith and husband Robert of Tomball, her son William Weir Bourland of Victoria, her brother John G. Weir, III and wife Mary of Chandler, AZ., her niece, Gregory Anne Montgomery and husband Matt of Frisco, her aunt Nell Rose Weir and cousin Dale Weir of San Antonio, her uncle Herbert and aunt Nell Schmidt of Seguin, and her cousin Lynnette Tschoepe.  She also leaves behind many other loving relatives and friends.  

Christy started water skiing at the age of three and was a member of the elite Ski-Bees Water Ski Team at the age of nine.   In 1965, she won her first national title in Junior Girls and a year later she won Women’s tricks at the Masters.  In 1969, she placed second in tricks and overall at the World Water Ski Championships.  Two years later she won the World jumping and overall titles.  She held the Women’s World Slalom record for nine years and was a member of the U.S. Water Ski Team in 1969 and 1971.  Christy received an Award of Distinction at the Water Ski Hall of Fame in Polk City, Florida last summer.  Christy worked as an accountant for DuPont for the last twenty-five years. 

Services are scheduled for June 1, 2004 at 11:00 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Cibolo with the Reverend Brett Becker officiating.  A private family burial will take place at the Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park in New Braunfels.

Chad Anthony Treichel, age 28 of Waller, passed away on May 18, 2004.  Chad was born on November 5, 1975 and was baptized on December 14, 1975 at Salem Lutheran Church in Whitehall, TX.  He was confirmed on April 8, 1990 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Magnolia.  Confirmation verse:  “Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.” Rev. 2:10.  He was married on August 10, 2002 to Summer Jeneé Emmott.

Anna Catherine Grudziecke, age 6, of Waller passed away on April 11, 2004.  Anna was a Kindergartner at Rosehill Christian School who loved to color, play with her brothers, draw, ride her Barbie jeep, and loved horses.

He was a member of St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Community, Knights of Columbus Council #12672.

While his brothers served in the armed forces, Charles stayed home to take care of the family farm in Chappell Hill.  He married his wife, Julia Lucherk Kmiec, in 1948 where they lived and started their family in Chappell Hill.   In 1960, the family moved to Waller where Mr. & Mrs. Kmiec owned Charles Kmiec Package Store until 1968.  He also worked at Lloyds of Texas during this time.  In 1968, Mr. Kmiec started Charles Service Station Services (later incorporating as K&G Contractors, Inc.) which offered construction and maintenance service to gas stations in the Houston area.  His family lived in and served the community of Waller County.  Mr. Kmiec loved his church, St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church. He traveled to the Holy Land in 1980 with his church.  In 1991, Mr. Kmiec retired from full time work in Houston; however, he could be found in local coffee shops keeping up on politics, making a few real estate deals, making trips to Brenham, Chappell Hill, and Waller to keep up with old friends, new friends, and many family members.

Crystal Gayle McCracken, age 23 of Hempstead, passed away on March 7, 2004.  Crystal is preceded in death by her grandfather, C.A. ROBERT

Funeral services for Wendell G. Robert of Conroe will be held on March 9, 2004 at 10:00am at Canon Funeral Home in Waller.  Interment will follow in Shiloh Cemetery in Prairie View.

Wendell was born October 20, 1913 in Crockett, TX and passed away in Spring, TX.  She moved to Conroe in 1972.  She graduated from Sam Houston University and received a Masters degree from University of Houston.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Conroe and Retired Teachers of Montgomery County and did volunteer work.  She taught school in Houston County, Waller, Pattison, Cypress-Fairbanks, and Conroe.

She is survived by her son, William F. Robert and wife Marzie of Spring, TX; grandchildren, Wendy Lee Ann Anderson and husband Blake of Murfressboro, TN, Jeffrey Lee Robert and wife Heather of Montgomery, TX, Shannon Collier and husband Chris of Spring, TX, and Kim Jackson of Spring, TX; great grandchildren, Jordan Jackson, Coleton Anderson, Caseson Anderson, Brennan Collier, Hunter Robert, and Callie Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rachel Lorraine Glasgow, age 59 of Waller, passed away on March 5, 2004.  Mrs. Glasgow is survived by her husband, Dennis Dale Glasgow; son, Dennis David Glasgow; daughter, Denise Lorraine Maples; and grandchildren, William Snowed Dale Maples, Christiana Marie Maples, and Channon Ellen Maples.

Ira Joseph Wright, age 82 of Hempstead, passed away on February 23, 2004.  Mr. Wright is survived by his wife, Vivian; son, Sam Wright and wife Sara; sister, Betty Ward and husband Ed; and 2 grandchildren.

Ina Louise Douglas, age 81 of DeQuincy, LA, passed away on February 21, 2004.  Mrs. Douglas is survived by her sons, George Douglas and wife Pat, Leo Douglas and wife Ernestine, and John Douglas and wife Vickie; daughters, Neola Brown, and Delores McMahon and husband Paul; sisters, Tine Spell, and Annie Mae Wedgeworth; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

FERGUSON

Jimmy Ferguson, age 76 of Hempstead, passed away on February 20, 2004.  Mr. Ferguson was a veteran of WWII and a dual member of Hempstead Masonic Lodge # 749 and Waller Lodge # 808.  He was the ranch foreman for 9 Bar Ranch for 55 years and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Hempstead.

Mr. Ferguson is preceded in death by his son, James Ferguson; and is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ferguson; sons, John Ferguson, Gary Ferguson and wife Sandy, Larry Ferguson and wife Barbara, Michael Wright and wife Terry; daughter, Deborah Whitehead and husband David; brother, Sam Ferguson and wife Joyce; sister, Winnie Sparks and husband Jim; 14 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

Patricia Sue Buzek, age 70 of Waller, passed away on February 17, 2004.  Mrs. Buzek is preceded in death by her son, Vincent Wells Buzek; and is survived by her husband, Arnold Buzek; sons, Stanley Buzek and wife Barbara, Glen Buzek and wife Heather, Stephen Buzek and wife Liz, and Daniel Buzek and wife Tinson; daughter, Theresa Buzek; 11 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

BIRD

Clyde Marie Bird, 82, a longtime resident of Hempstead, died February 15 at Trinity Care Center in Brenham after a lengthy illness.  A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Canon Funeral Home in Waller. Visitation will be Tuesday, 6-8 p.m.  A graveside service and burial will at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Sparkman, Arkansas Saturday at 2 p.m.  Mrs. Bird is survived by her husband of 60 years, C.W. and son and daughter-in-law David and Marilyn, all of Hempstead; son and daughter-in-law Craig and Melissa Bird of San Antonio; four grandchildren and their spouses, Kimberly Lamm and Stephanie Millington of Temple, Coby Bird of Fort Worth and Brant Bird of Pleasanton; six great grandchildren, and a sister and two brothers of Camden, Arkansas.   

Born in Fordyce, Arkansas on June 26, 1921, Mrs. Bird was the 1939 valedictorian of Harmony Grove (Arkansas) High School and was actively involved in church work throughout her life, especially the Woman’s Missionary Union and teaching Bible classes.  She played a key role in the organization of the first Baptist church in Iceland in 1962-63 and was appointed a short-term missionary to Kenya, East Africa 1987-88 by the Southern Baptist Convention’s Foreign Mission Board.  She was a member of First Baptist Church, Hempstead.

The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to the “Launch Fund” of Hope Community Church, P.O. Box 1716, Belton, Texas, 76513.  This is a just-forming congregation led by Rev. Mike Bergman, former pastor of FBC Hempstead.

MELTON

Ruby Jewel Melton, age 91 of Waller, passed away on February 4, 2004.  Mrs. Melton is preceded in death by her husband, John W. Melton; and grandson, Derrick Burger; and is survived by her son, Milton Burger and wife Loyce; sister, Zelma Obermiller of Belton, TX; grandchildren, Brenda Dopslauf and husband Edward, Cheryl Oakes and husband Robert, and John A. Burger; great grandchildren, Kristie Runyan and husband Donald, Christopher Oakes and wife Erin, Eric Dopslauf and Sarah, John A. Burger II and Christi, and Nicole Webb and husband Clay; and great great grandchildren, Blake Runyan, Brannon Runyan, Chris Oakes, Eric Oakes, and Brenden Webb.

FREY

Frankie A. Frey, 71, of Waller, Texas passed away peacefully at home, February 4, 2004.  Frankie was born in Waller to Frankie R. and Lillie Knebel Frey on August 22, 1932.  Frankie is survived by Frances, his loving wife of 45 years.  Also surviving are his son and best friend, Roger Frey & wife Karen, precious daughters Becky Lewis & husband Steve, Alison Christian & husband Greg.  His greatest joy was his grandchildren Abigail Frey, Andrew Frey, Madeline Lewis, Olivia Lewis, Taylor Christian, and Layne Christian.  Also surviving are his sister Margie Samford, mother-in-law Bernice Mikeska, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jeanell and Maurice Hart and their children Reese Hart, Kevin Hart, and Karen Williams, their families and other relatives.  Frankie enjoyed his coffee friends, deer hunting, fishing, gardening, and the house at Lake Somerville.  Frankie was a life long member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Waller and served many years on the Waller City Council.  Frankie was an 8 1/2 year lymphoma cancer survivor and passed away due to major organ failure as a result of infection.  A special thanks to all blood donors who are truly the gift of life.  Pallbearers are Reese Hart, Kevin Hart, Jason Williams, Roy Cook, H.J. Lola Mae Riley, age 83 of Waller, passed away on February 3, 2004.  Mrs. Riley, loving wife and mother,  is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Henry Riley; parents, William and Rachael Jane Baker; and brother, William Jeff Baker; and is survived by her daughter, Myrna Gaddis and husband Robert; son Charles Henry Riley Jr. and wife Jo Ann; brother, Horace Baker and wife Gladys; sister-in-law, Tina Baker; grandchildren, Tamra K. Crawford, Donna M. Wagers, Stefanie Stutts, and Charles Kyle Riley; great grandchildren, Gary S. Crawford, Joshua A. Crawford, Kaitlin T. Thelma Hakemack, age 84 of Waller, passed away on February 1, 2004.  Mrs. Hakemack is survived by her son, Charles Hakemack and wife Lana; daughter, Carolyn Thomas and husband Harold; sisters-in-law, Betty Avery and Frankie Wren; grandchildren, Guy Thomas and wife Tammy, Julie Abke and husband Larry, Joshua Hakemack, and Rachael Hakemack; and great grandchildren, Paige Thomas, Cheyanne Abke, Taylor Thomas, and Donald Rollings.  Special thanks to her dedicated health care provider and friend, Aileen Newsome.

Her joy was her family and her home.  And until her last day she was always concerned about everybody.  Her wonderful smile was her testimony to her loving spirit.

Viola Kulhanek Nagy, age 87 of Waller, passed away on January 23, 2004.  Mrs. Nagy is preceded in death by her parents, Joe F. and Georgiana Kulhanek; and brother, Bernard Joe Kulhanek; and is survived by her brother, Baldwin Frank Kulhanek and wife Benita of Riverside, CA; nephews, Lee and Britain; and friends, Johnnie Wayne and Linda Braun and their daughter Kristen, Steven and Laurie Gallway and their son Jason, Milton and Sandra Dawson, and Johnnie and Dora Braun.

Georgia Anner Clepper Reynolds, age 95 of Houston, passed away on January 19, 2004.  Mrs. Reynolds is survived by her children, Clem and Virginia Reynolds, Kenneth and Raunell Reynolds, Jimmie and Debbie Reynolds, and Nancy Reynolds Wren; sisters, Annie Bell Dreyer, and Opal Boyer; 13 grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 23, 2004 at 10:00am at Airline Manor Baptist Church, 610 East Parker, Houston, TX 77076, under the direction of Dr. J.D. Andrews.  A Graveside Service will follow at 2:00pm at Magnolia Cemetery.

MAYER

Elverna Fischer Mayer age 79, of Waller passed away January 17, 2004 in Tomball.  Elverna is preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Mayer; daughter, Sharon Sue Martin; and granddaughter, LaTania Martin.  She is survived by  mother, Alma Fischer; sons, Ronald Wayne Mayer and wife Margaret, and William Allen Mayer and wife Kathy; daughter, Gloria Ann Foltin and husband Tony;  son-in law, Michael Martin; brother, Travis Fischer; sisters, Mary Hoff and Adelle Kunkel; grandchildren, Angela, Jana, Wayne, Rona and Micah; great grandchildren, Hunter, Mallory, Hayley, Johnathon and Bailey.  A visitation will be held January 18, 2004 at Canon Funeral Home Chapel from 5 till 8 P.M.  Funeral services will be held Monday January 19, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Waller with Pastor Jeffrey Marsh officiating. MARSHALL

Vernie Marshall, age 82, of Hempstead, passed away on January 6, 2004.  He was born Nov. 14, 1921 in Waller, Texas, son of Connie L. Marshall and Lillie (Frey) Marshall.  He moved to Houston at two years of age, where he lived for 48 years.  He attended elementary, middle and senior schools, graduating from John H. Regan in 1939.  He attended South Texas Jr. College and Grayson College.

After high school Vernie worked for Schudde Brothers Clothiers.   He married Leola (Mansell) on December 25, 1941.  Vernie is preceded in death by his mother, father, sister, Grace Stern, and son, Terry Alan Marshall. 

Vernie served in the Air Force about 3 ˝ years during World War II as an instructor in aircraft mechanics on B17s and B29s and was honorably discharged.   He was a long time member of the Church of Christ, having served numerous congregations.  He worked for Proctor and Gamble for 38 years (1946-1984).

Mr. Marshall is survived by his wife of 62 years, Leola Marshall; son, Larry Marshall; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Gus Benis; brother, Lawrence Marshall and wife Nell; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 8, 2004 from 5 – 8pm at Canon Funeral Home Chapel.   Funeral Services will be Friday, January 9, 2004 at 10:00am at the Hempstead Church of Christ with Minister Eugene Dewveall officiating.   Interment will follow at Waller Cemetery.
