Clifton Hutchinson, age 79 of Hempstead, passed away on December 22, 2005.  Mr. Hutchinson is preceded in death by his wife, M. Delphia Irene Yeats, age 83 of Hockley, passed away on December 18, 2005.  Mrs. Yeats is preceded in death by her husband, T.B. Debra Beach, age 47 of Hempstead, passed away on December 11, 2005.  Debra is preceded in death by her mother, Olga Elizabeth Mahler; brothers, John Clifford Mahler and James Timothy Mahler; and is survived by her husband, Charles C. Beach; father, Jack Mahler; sons, Robert C. Beach and John C. Beach; brother, Michael Patrick Mahler and wife Jenifer; and sisters, Colleen Musslewhite and husband John, Laurie Ann Mahler, and Patricia Kay Mahler.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 14, 2005 from 5 – 7pm at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Hempstead with a Rosary at 7:00pm.  Funeral Services will be Thursday, December 15, 2005 at 10:00am at St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church with Father James Burkart officiating.  Interment will be Friday, December 16th at 11:30am at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Beaumont.

Jack Bass, age 65 of Waller, passed away on December 9, 2005.  Mr. Bass is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Inez Bass; brothers, A.L. Bass Jr., Joe Bass, and Kenneth Bass; sister, Mary Lou Poole; son, Harry Wade Bass; and daughter, April Lynette Engelberger; and is survived by his wife, Charlotte Bass; brothers, Wade Bass and wife Glenda, and Melvin Bass and wife Naomi; sister, Nora Nixon; 6 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

Frank Hosea, age 66 of Waller, Texas passed away December 7, 2005.  He is preceded in death by his father, Ernest Hosea; brothers, Ernest Willie, and Elmer Hosea; and granddaughter, Nikole Liles.  He is survived by his mother, Ila Mae Hosea; children, Frank Wayne and Tammy Hosea, Donna and Gary Liles, Robert E. Hosea, and Marvin Eugene Hosea; grandchildren, Kenneth, Robert, Craig, Christina, Amy, and Kimberly Hosea, Crystal Allen, Ashley Mauldin, and Victoria Mitcham; brothers, Wardell and Edward Hosea; sisters, Jeanie Wagner, Myrtle Costello, Gertrude Sims, Thelma Waldrop, Virgie Profitt, Mattie Hosea, and Barbara Dunn; and several nephews and nieces.

PULASKI    View Video Tribute

Jacklyn Pulaski, age 61 of Hempstead, passed away on November 30, 2005.  Mrs. Pulaski is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Dorothy Savedra; sister, Doris Parker; and brother, Jerrill Brown; and is survived by her husband, Thomas Pulaski; daughter, Stacy Bernal and husband Robert; grandchildren, Cizhon Wyler and Joshua Heiserman; 3 great grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews; and wonderful family and friends.

She was a 1962 graduate of Harlandale High School in San Antonio and was a member of the National Honor Society.  She graduated Cum Laude from Prairie View A&M University in 1987 and received her Masters Degree from Texas A&M University in 1994.  She worked for Lawrence Marshall Chevrolet and A.J. Foyt Chevrolet.  She had been employed by Waller ISD since 1990 and was currently Assistant Principal at Holleman Elementary.

Visitation will be Friday, December 2, 2005 from 5–7pm at Canon Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00pm.  Saturday morning, December 3rd  there will be visitation at the funeral home from 8:00am – 12:00pm, followed by a Graveside Service at 2:00pm at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hempstead.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Building Fund of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 800 FM 1488, Hempstead, TX 77445.

DAVIS

Bessie Ruth Davis age 87 of  Waller passed away November 26, 2005.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Archie Davis; and son, Lester Lee Davis; and is survived by her daughters, Jurline Davis Salyer and Hilda Davis; sisters, Irene Jenkins and Edna Mikeska; 8 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. 

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 29, 2005 from 6:00 – 8:00pm.  Funeral Services will be Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at 10:00am at Canon Funeral Home in Waller with Pastor Mike Garrett and Hazel Flora officiating.  Interment will follow at Hempstead Cemetery.

THOMAS

THOMAS, MELLIE LOU (SMITH), went to meet her Heavenly Father on November 26, 2005.  Mellie was born to Henry and Lora Wilson Smith on August 21, 1921 and wed Otis Edward Thomas on December 30, 1939 in Waller County, Texas.  She was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church now The Church at Friendship where she served as the Vacation Bible School Coordinator for over 25 years.  She and her faithful caregiver, Sally Hartigan, sewed numerous unique items for friends and family over the years.  “Mema” and Sally designed and sewed each dress or quilt to be special to each child and grandchild.  Her smile and laugh will be missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by 5 children: daughter and son-in-law Betty and Charley Chenault of Burton, daughter-in-law Carol Thomas of Brenham, son and daughter-in-law Charlie and Phyllis Thomas of Houston, sons and daughter-in-laws Milton and Cheryl Thomas, Frank and Linda Thomas, and Glen Thomas and friend Jo Bettis all of Hockley. Also survived by 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, another great-grandchild expected in February, special friend Willie Bedford, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

Pre-deceased by husband Otis, son Bobby Thomas, parents, 3 brothers and a sister

Timothy Lee Thomas, age 18, of Pasadena, passed away on November 24, 2005.  Timothy is survived by his mother, Nina Garbs and Stanley Mayoski; grandfather, John Heard; grandmothers, Dorothy Temple and Penny Menke; and brothers, Christopher and Michael Thomas.

Funeral Services will be Sunday November 27, 2005 at 2:00pm at Canon Funeral Home with Chaplain Jim Barclift officiating.  Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00am – 2:00pm.  Interment will follow at Waller Cemetery.

Clara Mae Anderson, age 80 of Waller, passed away on November 22, 2005.  Mrs. Anderson is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wesley Anderson; and sons, Charles Wesley Anderson Jr. and David Charles Anderson; and is survived by her son, Dennis Gary Anderson and wife Connie; daughters, Clara WesLynn Sallas and husband Ray, Linda S. Lisa Marie Carey, age 23 of College Station, passed away on November 11, 2005.  She is preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis Carey; grandfather, C. Frank Irwin Jr., age 56 of Waller, passed away on November 9, 2005.  Mr. Irwin is survived by his wife, Linda Irwin; son, Frank Irwin; brothers, Johnny Dixon, James Irwin, Randy Irwin, and Jessie Taylor; and sister, Carolyn Marsh.

F.D. “Shorty” Hirsekorn, age 70 of Waller, passed away on November 8, 2005.  Mr. Hirsekorn is survived by his wife, Joy Hirsekorn; son, Franklin Donald Hirsekorn Jr. and wife Velina, and David Glen Hirsekorn; daughters, Kathy Campbell and husband Michael, and Deanna Hirsekorn; brothers, Ted Hirsekorn, and Wally Hirsekorn; sister, Ida Fleming; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.

BYRD

Adice Byrd, 96, of Orange, Texas, died Tuesday, November 8, 2005, at Marshall Manor Nursing Home in Marshall, Texas, after evacuating from the Sabine House during Hurricane Rita.     

    Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2005, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

     Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2005, at Canon Funeral Home, 1420 Farr St., Waller, Texas 77484. Officiating will be Reverend John Isom from Waller Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Canon-Mathis Cemetery in Waller. A visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home in Waller.

          Mrs. Byrd was born in Waller, Texas, on September 14, 1909. She was the oldest living graduate of the Class of 1928 from Waller High School and a member of Waller Baptist Church.

     She was preceded in  death by her husband, Charlie C. Byrd in 1968; son, Carroll Kent Byrd; three brothers and three sisters.

     Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Celia and Tom Martin of Austin; sons and daughters-in-law, Darby, Sr. and Doris Byrd of Orange, Gene and Kathy Byrd of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; grandchildren, Darby Byrd, Jr., Debra McDavid, Jeanette Byrd, Dana Byrd; great-granddaughter, Kaylie Byrd and sister, Florene Fehrenkamp of Houston.

     Serving as pallbearers are Darby Byrd, Jr., Tom McDavid, Ronnie Mathis, Bobby Mathis, Chris Songster and Norman Mathis.

DIMAS

Arnoldo Dimas Sr., age 55 of Waller, passed away on November 8, 2005.  Mr. Dimas is survived by his wife, Alma; sons, Arnold Dimas Jr. and wife Rebecca, and Kelly Dimas; daughters, Inez Dimas, Valerie Villareal and husband Jorge; brother, Rocky Dimas; sisters, Gracie Dimas, Gloria Perez and husband Bart; and 8 grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 10, 2005 from 6 – 9pm at Canon Funeral Home Chapel with a Vigil at 7:00pm.  Friday evening at Garcia Funeral Home in Benavides, Texas there will be a visitation and Rosary at 7:00pm.  A Funeral Mass will be Held on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 10:00am at Garcia Funeral Home in Benavides, Texas.  Interment will follow at Benavides Cemetery.

MUSE

Lyda Muse was born October 12, 1919 to Joe and Martha Hulsey near Malvern, Arkansas.  She left this life November 7, 2005 at Brenham, Texas.  In between those dates, Lyda married Herb Muse August 28, 1937, reared three children on a farm, was a loyal and loving mother and wife, and made a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herb in 1989, her parents, four brothers and two sisters.  She is survived by her children and their spouses, Wayne and Pat Stech of Orange Grove, Tx, Kermit and Martha Muse of Monck’s Corner, South Carolina, and Eddie and Mary Muse of Henderson, Tx, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one sister, Rosa Lee George or Myrtle Creek, Oregon, and many nieces and nephews as well as many, many friends.

Lyda lived a long, full, active life and will be sorely missed not only by family but by many friends in the Gotebo area and the First Baptist Church of Gotebo.

A chapel visitation is planned 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. Wed. Nov. 9 at Canon Funeral Home in Waller, Tx. Followed by funeral services at her beloved First Baptist Church of Gotebo at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11 and interment at Gotebo Cemetery under the direction of Canon Funeral Home, Waller, Tx.

DENNISON

A.S. “Buddy” Dennison of Liberty, formerly of Hockley, passed away on October 27, 2005.

Growing up in Nome, Texas and moving to Hockley in 1942, Buddy farmed with his fathers and brothers, where he prospered in Hockley until 1968.  Moving to Moss Hill in 1968, he began his own farming operation of rice, soybeans and cattle ranching.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maggie Hornberger and Andrew Dennison; wife, Bessie Franklin Dennison; sisters, Beulah Dennison, Neoma Sparks, Aldine Beckendorff, and Alma Foster.  He is survived by his brothers, Emanuel Dennison and wife Ruby of Hockley, Darrell Dennison and wife Verna of Livingston, A.B. “Shorty” Dennison and wife Wanda of Hockley, and Jack Dennison and wife Virginia of Waller; daughter, Kay Dennison of Moss Hill; granddaughters, Felicia Stone of Moss Hill, Deann Rives and husband Mike of Hardin, Buddie Smart and husband David of Moss Hill; great grandchildren, Aimee, Andrew, Kale, Kennedy, Dylon, and Makinnley; and special nephew and caregiver, Keith Dennison and wife Jannett of Katy.

A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2005 at 3:00pm at Fieldstore Cemetery with Reverends Gideon Watson and Kent Brown officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Canon Funeral Home of Waller.

Note: A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 29th from 4-6pm at the Methodist Church in Hardin, TX on North Hwy 146.

Louise Riemer Hoover, born January 17, 1917, was a life-long resident of Waller County.  She entered the Kingdom of Heaven on October 19, 2005.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, and by all fifteen of her brothers and sisters.  “Granny” is survived by her children: Doris Hayes of Houston, Everett and wife Alberta Hoover of Waller, and Betty and husband Carl Jones of Waller.  She also blessed the lives of eleven grandchildren; Billy, David, Curtis and Margaret, Bruce and Theresa Hayes, Tammy and Robert Taylor, Pamela and David Walker, Michael Hoover,  Cynthia and Scott McLeod, Debra and Marc Moroye, Carl and Jodi Jones, and Christopher and Melynda Jones and and 20 great-grandchildren; Kayce, Kristi, Mallory Hayes and Wes Shipmin, Lindsey and Carly Walker, Scotty and Samantha McLeod, Russell and Jessica Moroye, C. J. Noah and Daniel Jones, Macy Louise Jones, Warner and Bennett Hayes, Andrew and Nicholas Hayes, Courtney and Hunter Taylor, as well as countless friends and relatives.  Granny will be deeply missed by us all.

PEIL    View Video Tribute

Thelma Aletia Burton Peil was born to Ralph Larkin Burton and Doralie Binford Burton on April 17, 1918 in Hockley, Texas.  She was the middle child of nine.  She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph Burton, Joe Burton, and George Burton, and her sister, Margariete Victory.  She is survived by four sisters, Berniece Burton, Dora Alice Norwood, Ruby Denison, and Patsy Hamaker. 

            The Burton ancestors settled in Hockley in the 1890s.  Thelma’s family moved from Burton Cemetery Road to the Hockley homestead when she was seven years old.  She was upset with the move because she now had to walk to school instead of riding a horse and buggy like her older siblings.  She attended Hockley school first through tenth after which they merged with Waller schools.  She graduated from Waller High School in 1936.  She went on to graduate from The University of Houston with her Bachelors and later her Masters. 

            On June 3, 1939, she married G. W. Peil Jr. who also attended school in Hockley graduating in 1934.  She is survived by their two sons, Ralph Graham Peil, M.D. and Larry Joseph Peil.  They grew up on the family farm which was purchased by their great great grandfather, J. W. Peil, on February 3, 1886.  During her 28 years of service to Waller ISD from 1952 to 1981, Thelma served as either an elementary teacher, high school math teacher, or principal.  She taught 4th grade 26 of those years.

            Thelma’s son, Ralph, married Charlotte Haney Peil.  They have three children: Dr. Gary W. Peil his wife Trisha and their four children Sarah, Hannah, Aaron and Joshua; Cheryl Loveday and her husband, Trevor Loveday, and their children, Samuel and Hope Anne; Melissa Aydelotte and her husband, Dr. Jayson Aydelotte, and their children, Nelson, Oliver and Benjamin.

            Thelma’s son, Larry, married Charlotte Morris Peil.  They have two daughters: Jennifer Rosenquist and her husband, John Rosenquist, and their two children Carsyn and Cade.  Their second daughter is Tiffany A. Peil.

            G.W. Peil preceded Thelma in death on May 6, 1976.  Thelma lived her remaining years on the family farm.  Thanks to her care givers, Karen and David Sitton she was able to remain in her home until death.  Her family celebrates her life here today and looks forward to seeing her again one day in heaven.

Herschel H. Blackwell, Jr. passed away at his home in Austin, Texas on October 8, 2005.  His family would like to thank the staff at Grace House, Austin, Texas for their love and care during his last few years.

He was born November 5, 1922 in Houston, Texas to Herschel H. and Ila Mae Blackwell.  He had three brothers and one sister.

Present at Pearl Harbor, he served throughout the Pacific Theater during World War II.  During his 25-year military career he also served in the Korean War and Vietnam.  He was a patriot and one for whom the words “duty, honor, country” had a deep meaning.

He was active in the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, Navy Squadron VP102/14 Association (Kaneohe Klippers), Veterans of Foreign Wars, Grand Lodge of Texas, A.F. & A.M. – Pleasant Hill Lodge 380, Arabia Shriners A.A.O.N.M.S. of Houston, Texas, Past Commandant of the Arabia Temple Legion of Honor, the American Legion and the Lions Club.

Herschel was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Anna L. Blackwell.

Herschel is survived by daughter, Patty Songster and her husband Hugh Songster of Waller, Texas; daughter, Peggy Price and her husband Ron Price of Austin, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and brother, Allen Blackwell of New Caney, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 7:00 – 8:00pm Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at Canon Funeral Home, Waller, Texas.

Pearl Roberds Rohrer passed away Friday, September 23, 2005 in Waller, TX at the age of 97.  She was born August 29, 1908 in Polk County, TX to the late Gilbert Garrison Roberds & the late Lydia Ann Taylor Roberds.  In addition to her parents, her husband, Oscar Duff Rohrer, Sr., stepson, O. D. Rohrer, Jr, two sisters & two brothers predecease her.  She is survived by her daughter, Lydia Rohrer Sandifer Kehlenbeck & husband, William Kehlenbeck of Waller; grandchildren, Darlene Sandifer Tucker & husband, Dub of Waller;, Marlene Sandifer Boomer & husband, Steve of Houston; Brian Paul Sandifer & wife, Brenda of Waller; & Dana Kathlene Sandifer Violette & husband, John of Des Moines, WA; great grandchildren, Daniel Conner & wife, Lindsey of Austin; Zachary Tucker & Layla Tucker of Waller; Aaron Sandifer; Jackie Mikeska and husband Jason of Waller, Stephanie Boomer of Houston; Brian Randle Sandifer & Brittany Lynn Sandifer of Waller; & Joshua Randle Violette of Des Moines, WA.; great great granddaughters,  Marissa Sandifer & Katelynn Warren of Houston; & Darby Conner of Austin;  step grandchildren Dennis D. Mrs. Rohrer grew up near Livingston, TX, &, after graduation, attended Stephen F. Austin College in Nacogdoches, TX for two years.

She married Oscar D. Rohrer, Sr. January 21, 1932.  They operated a small dairy on the north side of Houston.  There they milked by hand and bottled the milk for door-to-door delivery to their neighbors. 

Their only child was born in 1940.  Shortly thereafter, Mr. Rohrer ended his career in oil fields, & they moved to Addicks, TX where they increased their dairy herd to fully support their family. Eight years later, in 1948, they moved their dairy to the Klein area.  In 1950 they purchased a farm south of Waller, some of which is still in the family. 

In 1961, they sold their dairy cattle, & Mrs. Rohrer, at age 52, returned to College receiving a B.S & M.S. & hours toward a doctorate in special education.  She began her teaching career in 1964 with one year at Aldine ISD, fifteen years at Cy-Fair ISD, one year at Sealy ISD, two years at private schools in Hempstead & Magnolia & several years substituting in Waller ISD. 

Mrs. Rohrer held a 50+-year membership & is a past Worthy Matron with Waller Order of Eastern Star, which, while she was able to be active, was an important part of her life.

In addition to Eastern Star & teaching, which was the love of her life, she immensely enjoyed her garden, grandchildren, & pets. 

After fracturing her leg in May of 1999, she has spent most of the time as a resident at Brown House in Waller.  Her family wants to thank Jeanette Batchelder & her staff for the excellent care she received.  They also want to thank the staff of Lighthouse Hospice for their care and attention.

Phillip Wayne Karisch

Oct. 27, 1945 – Aug. 25, 2005

Phil Karisch, 59 years old, an avid hunter and devoted father and son, went to meet his Savior on Thursday, August 25, 2005 in Houston.  He was born October 27, 1945 to Newton and Helen Karisch in New London, Connecticut.  He was a faithful employee of Precision Flamecutting and Steel.  He often visited his mother at his home place in Hempstead on weekends.  While there, he enjoyed many aspects of nature, such as hunting and fishing with his son, Cody.

Phil will be greatly missed by a host of family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his fathers, Newton Karisch and Hartwell S. Winfree; and his younger brother, Keith Karisch.  Survivors include his mother, Helen Winfree of Hempstead; his loving children, Chad Karisch and daughter-in-law Tami of Hempstead, Heather Karisch of Houston, Kelli Owens and son-in-law Chris of Pearland, Kristen Karisch of Houston, and Cody Karisch of Houston; grandchildren, Cole, Reid, and Calli Karisch, William and Avery Wood; sister-in-law, Carmen Karisch of Hempstead; nephews and niece, Scott Karisch and his wife Robin of New Braunfels, Craig Karisch of Houston, and Kendra Karisch of Houston; great nephews and niece John, Brandon, and Brooke Lopez; special friends, Betty Bennett of League City and Ellen Karisch of Houston.  He is also survived by many other family members and friends.

John Robert Way, age 66, of Waller passed away Saturday, August 20, 2005 at his home. Rev. Phyllis Carey, age 49 of Waller, passed away on August 5, 2005.   She is survived by her husband, of 32 years, John Carey, Her children, Matthew Carey, Lisa Carey, and Steven Carey, and her mother Jessie Walls.

She was born in Bad Kreuznach, Germany on November 19, 1955.  She grew up in Alma, Kansas where she graduated high school.   She was also a graduate of Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and a minor in Psychology, and Brite Divinity School-Campus of Texas Christian University-Fort Worth, with a Masters of Divinity. She was ordained Elder of Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church in May 2003.

She has served many churches in her career.  She was the Pastor of The First United Methodist Church of Waller from June 2003 to present, Pastor of Kosse United Methodist Church, and Reagan United Methodist Church from January 2000 to June 2003, Pastor of Millican United Methodist Church from June 1995 to December 1999, Program Director for the Caldwell United Methodist Church from August 1992 to September 1993, and Program Secretary for A&M United Methodist Church in College Station, Texas from August 1989 to August 1992.

She received the  Parish Minister of the Year award in  May 2000 from the Brite Divinity School and the Texas Conference UMC Small Membership Pastor of the year in May 2002.  She was involved in various District and Conference Responsibilities.

Visitation will be Monday, August 8, 2005 from 5 – 7 pm at Canon Funeral Home Chapel, with a Memorial Service beginning at 7 pm.   Funeral Services will be Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at 10 am at  A & M United Methodist Church, College Station Interment will be at Texas Conference Cemetery in Palestine, TX at 4 pm.

Alta Pearl Lloyd, age 92 of Waller, passed away on August 4, 2005.   Mrs. Lloyd is preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Lloyd and daughter, Rita Lloyd; and is survived by her daughter, Linda Sue Partida and husband Henry; sister, Tommye Phillips; and one grandchild, Louis M. Rosenbaum.

Ola Mae Riley Erwin, age 91, passed away on August 5, 2005 in Austin, Texas.  She is survived by her sons, John Erwin, of Austin, Texas and Tommy Erwin and wife Rose Ellen of San Antonio, Texas, and several grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, T.G. Erwin in 1980.  Ola and T.G. owned the Handy Dandy Grocery store in Gladewater, Texas from 1950-1975.

JAGGERS

J.T. (John Thomas) Jaggers, 93, of the Pine Island Community, Hempstead, TX, died on August 2, 2005 at his home after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Buckholt, TX on December 5, 1911, to Jeff and Pearl Jaggers.   He moved to the Pine Island Community in Hempstead when he was a young man and lived there his entire adult life.  He worked as an automobile mechanic for many years and retired from the Waller County Road and Bridge Department after 26 ½ years as shop foreman.

He is survived by his wife of 69 ½ years, Lena Jaggers.  They were married on Christmas Day 1935.  He also leaves two daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Joe Bickley of Montgomery, TX and Mildred and Vernon Andricks of Hempstead, TX.  Others include 3 granddaughters, Christy and her husband Scott Eason, Kathy Bickley, Karen and her husband Mike Davis and his 5 great grandchildren, Tanner Hansen, Madison Schiel, Keagan Eason, and Karson and Brayan Davis.

He is also survived by two brothers and their wives, Clyde and Joyce Jaggers, and Lee and Joyce Jaggers, 4 sisters, Nora Gillham, Gladys Jaggers, Janice and her husband Neil Brumlow, and Ruby and her husband Freddie Brumlow, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jeff and Pearl Jaggers, 2 brothers, Eugene Jaggers and Jeff Jaggers and sisters, Clara Mae Glass, Minnie Liedecker, Bess Rackley and Leona Staggs.

He served as an alderman for the city of Pine Island and was active in the Pine Island Baptist Church of which he was a member for over 70 years.  J.T. enjoyed calf roping as a young man, raising a few head of cattle, watching sports on tv, and playing “42” with friends.

He loved his family and especially enjoyed watching his three granddaughters grow up and in his last years simply enjoyed sitting and holding all five of his great grandchildren when each baby was born.  He said that he could just sit and hold them all day long.  He enjoyed having his family come home to visit and would always ask, “What’s your hurry?  You might as well spend the night and go in the morning” when they would have to leave.  He loved his Lord and lived each day “One Day at a Time” which was his favorite hymn.  His last days were spent at home surrounded by the family and many friends he loved but in his own words, “When the Lord says that it’s my time, I’m ready to go.”

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 from 5 – 8pm at Canon Funeral Home in Waller, TX.  Services will be Thursday, August 4, 2005 at 10:30am at Canon Funeral Home with Brother Tom Dobbs and Brother Kenneth James officiating.  Interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery.

Lula Mae Sheffield of Beckville, TX passed away on July 26, 2005.   Mrs. Sheffield is preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Joyce McClard; and sons, William Eugene Sheffield and Othel Sheffield; and is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Mae Chandler and husband Ray, Lorene Metcalf, and Irene Williams; sister, Gertrude McWilliams; 18 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Muriel Angeline Moyer, age 78 of P. O. Box 632, Hempstead, TX 77445 passed away on June 10, 2005.  The wife of William E. Moyer, she was born on May 7, 1927 to Clarence O. Powers and Pauline Baumeister Powers, Long Island, N. Y.  Muriel graduated from Bayside High School, N. Y. and worked in N. Y. and Sharon, Pa. banks, Sharon General Hospital and retired from Greenwood Pharmacy, Sharon, Pa. in 1985.  Muriel was formerly a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Hermitage, Pa. and Church Of The Brethren, Sebring, Fl.  Muriel enjoyed reading, writing letters, emailing and traveling.  She and her husband were full time RV’ers for 17 years.  Muriel is preceded in death by  her parents and brother Larry Powers, and is survived by her husband, William E. Moyer; daughters, Debbie Worthington, Brenda Quintero, both of Houston, TX  and son, Bill Moyer; Austin, TX grandchildren, Nicole Soknich and Nathan Soknich, 6 step-grandchildren, and 4 step-great-grandchildren. Elsie Stewart, age 84 of Richmond, passed away on June 2, 2005.  Mrs. Stewart is preceded in death by her husband, James Stewart; and is survived by her sisters, Annie Marie Farquhar and Elaine Shutt; and numerous nieces and nephew.

Elsie and Jimmy Stewart owned the Stewart Furniture Company in La Porte, TX for many years before retiring to Hempstead.  Elsie eventually went to work for Waller County and subsequently served 2 terms as Waller County Treasurer.

Donald “Doc” Williams, age 91 of Hockley, passed away on May 28, 2005.  He is survived by step children, Jean Schultz, John Decker, Jim, Ken, Mike, Bill and Tom Scearce, and Bettye Gosch; family friend, Phillip Bolom; nephew, Frank Abshier; grandson, Tim Gosch; and numerous cousins and other family.

Doc was a lifelong resident of Waller County.  He was a veteran of World War II and landed on Normandy Beach on the second day and went all the way to Germany.

Beloved husband and father, Gus Pete Benis, age 66, passed away at his home in Hempstead, TX on May 4, 2005.  Born October 25, 1938, Gus graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston.  He served in the U.S. Army and Army Intelligence from 1962 to 1964.   Gus was a faithful member of Notre Dame Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus for many years.  He served as the president of Alief Little League for many years and was honored to have the baseball fields at George Bush Park named after him.  Gus worked for Weingarten Inc., Cameron Iron Works, Lawrence Marshall Dealerships, and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Gus is survived by wife, Connie Marshall Benis; children, Cindy and Kevin Yoakum, Barbara and Kevin Hough, Pete Gus Benis, Chris and Trina Benis, and Chris and Heather Gilbert; and grandchildren, Dillon and Ashley Yoakum, and Ethan, Wesley and Joshua Hough.  Gus was preceded in death by parents, Pete Gus Benis and Barbara Overstreet; and brother, George Benis.

Dolores Bain, of Waller, Texas, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend went to be with the Lord on March 30, 2005.  Born March 31, 1936 in Houston, Dolores was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Jimmy Bain, and by her parents, Mr. W.P. Vance and Vivian Vance.  She is survived by four children, Karen Bostwick and husband Neal, Glenn Bain and wife Sheila, Gary Bain and wife Debbie, and Darla Karsteter and husband Carl.  She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Melissa Stevens, Keith Karsteter, Keisha Lassetter, Jamie Goehring, Amy Bain, Kristopher Karsteter, Steven Bain, Kody Karsteter, Nolan Kimble, Willie Sapp, Becky Sapp, Kayla Bain, and Brian Bain.  Dolores is also survived by 6 great grandchildren, Autumn Stevens, Nathan Bain, Jacob Lassetter, Ainsley Goehring, Bradley Bain, and Kolby Karsteter.  She is also survived by her brothers, Ronnie Vance and wife Karen, Ed Vance and wife Annie, and J.D. Vance and wife Toni; and sisters, Patricia Parker and husband Perry, Wanda Cooper and husband Frank, Helen Fette, and Juanita Sanford.  She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.   The family would like to extend their appreciation to Jeanette Batchelder of Brown House for her compassionate care for the past year.   She lived her life with honesty and filled her days with laughter, and we will miss her.  Visitation will be Sunday, April 3, 2005 from 5 – 8pm at Canon Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral Services will be Monday, April 4, 2005 at 2:00pm at Canon Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeffrey Marsh officiating.  Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in White Hall.

Sunday, March13, 2005, Jesus opened the door to Paradise and welcomed GLORIA SUE WILLIAMS HENDRIX, age 74 of Waller.  She fought the good fight, yet succumbed to a brief illness.  Sue was born January 30, 1931 in Electra, Texas, to Raymond Lee Williams and Mary Rouse Williams.

   Sue served and was honorably discharged from the army in 1951.  She married Billy Gene Hendrix on August 11, 1951 and together they happily welcomed the arrival of seven sons and one daughter.  

   Sue was an avid artist, painter, and gardener and never spent an idle moment.  She was happy as a homemaker that was very evident in the wonderful family that she raised.  

   “100 pounds of dynamite” best describes her zestful personality.  She was soft and tender yet strong and tough as nails when necessary.  Once you met her, you could never forget her because she was definitely one of a kind. 

   She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert  Rouse Williams.

   Sue leaves behind her soul mate of nearly 54 years, Bill Hendrix, of Waller.  She leaves her seven precious sons; Billy Gene Hendrix, Jr. and wife Sandy, Randall Ray Hendrix and wife Tracy, Glendell Starr Hendrix and wife Annette, Robert Thomas Hendrix and wife Cindy, Michael Lance Hendrix and wife Rebecca, James Timothy Hendrix, Stephen Shannon Hendrix and wife Melissa, and her cherished daughter Gloria Sue Byer.  She also leaves twenty-five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, Raymond Thomas Williams, his wife Delores, nieces and nephews.

Elius “Doc” Bruney, age 88, of the Fields Store area, passed away on March 11, 2005. Doc is preceded in death by his wife Trussy. Hattie Janczak, age 95, of Hempstead, Texas passed away on March 11,  2005.  Hattie is  survived by daughters, Frances Sebesta , Jo Ann Tomczak  and Lucy Kopech   and husband Steve; brothers,  Max and Bruno Faterkowski; sisters, Nancy Jozwiak and Hellen Pawlowski; 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Mr. Wren was Past Master at both the Hempstead and Waller Masonic Lodges, and had received his 40 year pin.
