Kelly Oneal Cox, age 40 of Waller, passed away on December 25, 2006. Mr. Cox is preceded in death by father, James B. Cox; and is survived by his wife, Toya Ranee Cox; sons, Justin Cox and Kelly Cox Jr.; mother, Jerry Irene Cox; and sisters, Terrie Bacon and husband Bill, Jamie Tarver and husband Ted, and Elizabeth Watson and husband Dann.

Kelly was Past Master at Hempstead Masonic Lodge #749, Secretary at Waller Lodge #808, and was in the Order of the Easter Star.

Roland Robinson, age 85 of Magnolia, passed away on December 22, 2006. Mr. Robinson is preceded in death by his wife, Marie Robinson; and is survived by his sons, Wayne Robinson, Donald Robinson and wife Debbie, and Kenneth Robinson and wife Denise; daughter, Mary “Cookie” Epps and husband Steve; sister, Arlene Roff; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Diana Elena Gonzalez, age 49 of Hockley, passed away on December 17, 2006. Diana is survived by her mother, Irma Ledesma; husband, Emigdio Laudaverde; sons, Mario Gonzalez, Juan Gonzalez, Mark Gonzalez, and Emigdio Laudaverde Jr.; brothers, Santiago Ledesma, and Luciano Ledesma; and sister, Olga Ledesma.

Jessie Pearl McCaffety, age 65 of Hempstead, passed away on December 17, 2006. Mrs. McCaffety is survived by her husband, Manuel McCaffety; son, Jerry McCaffety; daughters, Barbara Haffelfinger and Benjamin Rodriguez; Sandra Elali and husband Frank, and Janice McCaffety; brother, Sonny Brown; and grandchildren, Dana Haffelfinger, Chris Anderson, Joe Adams, Keith Kemp, Ryan Adams, and Ashlee Kemp.

Mike Herrera, age 35 of Bellville, passed away on December 6, 2006. Louise Kurten, age 94 of Waller, passed away on December 7, 2006. Mrs. Kurten is preceded in death by her husband, E. Louis Kurten.

Jessie Marion Stanford, 65, died November 21, 2006, after an amazing two and a half year battle against lung cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, Dewey G. and Jessie Stanford. She is survived by family and friends too numerous to list and her partner of 25 years, Cassie Poulos. She was a proud native Houstonian, and she lived in the same neighborhood until 2000, when she moved to her farm in Waller. She was the office manager for the Law Offices of Jeffrey Newport for over 20 years. Her life was extended by her incredible spirit and will to live and the loving kindness, support, and assistance of dear friends and family who lent her their strength and energy during her incredible journey. She was thankful for every call, visit, card and prayer and felt that she was blessed every day by the love of the people around her. Special thanks go to Doctors Patricia Salvato, Jorge Quesada, Elizabeth Bloom, Joseph Varon, Evelyn Shearer-Poor, William Cohn, Omar Berakat, their support staffs, the nurses and pharmacist at OnCol Therapeutics, and the staff of Houston Hospice. These talented, caring providers did all they could to preserve and respect her quality of life. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 30th, 2006, at 1:30pm at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 811 14th Street, Hempstead, Texas, with a celebration of life to follow at her beloved farm in Waller. Mr. Shirley Foster Shirley age 73 of Magnolia passed away Saturday Nov. 25, 2006. He is preceded in death by parents, Carl Lindsey and Dolli B. Shirley and two brothers, Carl and Noble Shirley. Octave Shepert Robichaux, age 90, born February 24, 1916 in Raceland, Louisiana, left this earth on Thursday, November 23, 2006. He joins his wife of 57 years, Regina, with our Lord for eternity. He was a member of Ironworkers Local 84 in Houston. Member 50 plus years of Park Place Masonic Lodge 1172, Park Place Chapter and Council, and Park Place Knights Templar Commandery 106. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, W.F. “Butch” and Madelon Robichaux; grandson, James R. Brzycki; great grandsons, Brandyn and Derek Brzycki; and his loving niece who always remembered Ouida Mae Murdock of Henderson, Nevada.

Jo Ann Mayer, age 75, of Waller, Texas passed away on November 21, 2006 in Schulenberg, Texas. Visitation will be Saturday, November 25, 2006 from 12 - 2pm. A Memorial Service will begin at 2:00pm with Pastor Jeffrey Marsh officiating.

Bonnie Elaine (Cromeans) Barbe, age 58 of Waller, passed away on November 4, 2006. Mrs. Barbe is survived by her husband, Bob Barbe; step-daughter, Amara Yohleson; sister, Kathy Berthiaume and husband Butch; niece, Kim Ingram and husband Gerald; nephews, Kelly Cromeans and wife Cindy, and Brian Berthiaume; and 11 grandchildren.

Alta Oleta Phillips, age 91 of Hempstead, passed away on October 29, 2006. Miss Phillips is preceded in death by her parents, Thornton S. Phillips and Lucy Milam Phillips; brothers, Sylvan, Ben, Joe, and Beryl Phillips; and sisters, Myrtle Brumlow, Blanche Urquhart, Fran Throshmorton, Effie Seale, and Ethel Mingus; and is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Audrey Meador, age 77 of Tomball, passed away on October 29, 2006. Mrs. Meador is survived by her son, Kelly Scott Meador; daughter, Julia Kaye LaBarge and husband Greg; sisters, Helen Justice and husband Chuck, Harriett Kendrick and husband Bill, Betty Davis, and Bennie Nelms and husband C.I.; 3 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

John Everett Wren, also known as “Sammy” after his father, died suddenly on Friday, October 20, 2006 at his home in Lake Livingston surrounded by the nature he loved. Born in Houston in 1936 to Sam Edmund Wren and Dollye Blanche Howard, he enlisted in the Air Force and later became a Master Electrician. In his mid-twenties, John met and married the love of his life, Bettye Jane Turner and became the father to Betty’s four children. John and Bettye had a child, Kelly, who remained his closest ally until his death.

Known for his sense of humor as well as his quick temper, John will be remembered by his family and friends as a straight talking man’s man, who, if he liked you, would give you the shirt off his back. Admired for being a good provider, a loyal friend, and a great dancer, John’s most distinctive physical characteristics were his striking blue eyes and infectious smile.

John is survived by his daughter, Kelly Wren, her husband Jason Whittington and their children, Madison and Jax; his son Richard Turner and his wife, Martha and children Amani, Gisele, Patrick, Sarah, Michael and Caitlin; his daughter Pamela Turner, her husband Michael Hobbs and their daughter, Tara; his son Michael Turner and his wife Anita Fiddleman; his daughter Tracye Stutes and her children, Nicholas, John, and Ryan. John’s surviving siblings are his sisters Jeannie Myers, Mary Loving and Patricia Smallwood, and his brothers Billy Wren and Edmond Wren. He is preceded in death by his wife Bettye, brother Donald Wren, and parents Dollye and Sam Wren.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the Canon Funeral Home in Waller, Texas with a visitation at 10:00am and a service at 11:00 a.m. with internment next to his wife Bettye at the Fieldstore Cemetery in Waller. Diana Griffin, age 62 of Waller, passed away on October 24, 2006. Mrs. Griffin is survived by her husband, Kirk Griffin; sons, Kirk Griffin Jr., Clayton Griffin and wife Tammy, and Rex Griffin and wife Barbara; and grandchildren, Samantha, Wesly, Cody, Justin, and Ryan.

Nathan Kiser, age 66 of Hockley, passed away on October 23, 2006. Mr. Kiser is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and grandson, Justin Dozier; and is survived by his daughters, Debbie (Kiser) Carranza and husband Rick, and Diana (Kiser) Rathkamp and husband Kris; grandchildren, Johannah Rathkamp, Kyle Dozier and wife Brandy, Heath Dozier and Haley Adamick, and Katie Dozier; great granddaughters, Kaelyn and Jordyn Dozier; numerous nieces and nephews; and best of friends, Jerry and Pat Zigler.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 27, 2006 at 10:00am at Canon Funeral Home with Pastor Jonelle Hammack officiating.

Elizabeth (Betty) Georgal died October 14^th at the age of 89 in Tomball, Texas.

Betty lived most of her life in North Tonawanda, NY where she was honored to be the first President of the Women’s Auxiliary of Rescue Fire Company No. 5. She continued as an active member for many years. Betty and her late husband, Joseph, owned and operated a ceramic studio for many years on Oliver St. Betty was a highly respected instructor in ceramics as well as talented and artistic. She hand painted many porcelain figures and pieces of fine china as special gifts for her children and grandchildren and, as she was able, for her great grandchildren.

Betty also resided with her husband, Joe, in Adrian, Michigan for about 12 years. Betty and Joe were very active in the Adrian Senior Citizens Center. They then moved to Tomball, Texas where she resided for 10 years.

She leaves behind two sons and their spouses, Jack and Elli Georgal of Adrian, MI, and Skip and Danita Georgal of Hockley, Texas. Betty was also the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren. She was very pleased to also have 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

A memorial mass will be held at 9:30am on Friday, November 10, 2006 at St. Christopher Church, 2660 Niagara Falls Blvd., Tonawanda, NY, followed by internment of her ashes at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kenmore. After internment, everyone is invited to a luncheon to be held at St. Christopher Church.

Winona Pearl Glueck, age 90 of Waller, passed away on October 19, 2006. Mrs. Glueck worked for the City of Waller as City Secretary for 30 years. She loved to play dominos at the Hockley Community Center and loved gardening. She belonged to the Waller Lioness Club and was Secretary-Treasurer at First United Methodist Church in Waller.

She is preceded in death by her husband, W. T. Glueck; and son, Rex Allen Glueck; and is survived by her son, Howard Wesley Glueck and wife Margaret; daughter-in-law, Dolores Glueck; grandchildren, Chuck Allen Glueck and wife Lisa, Cody Ray Glueck and wife Janice, Brian Wesley Glueck and wife Jen Ryden, and Kevin Norton Glueck; and great grandchildren, Wesley, Wade, Chanse, Malaki, and Greta Glueck.

Lee Roy Hargrave, age 75 of Houston, passed away on October 16, 2006. Mr. Hargrave is survived by his sons, Ronny Hargrave and wife Joy, and Roy Hargrave and wife Candace; daughters, Linda Chambers and husband Jerry, Evelyn Hargrave, and Jennifer Hargrave; brother, Otto Hargrave, Jr. and wife Minnie; sister, Betty Clark and husband Bobby; and grandchildren, Tracy Hargrave, and Will Chambers. Mr. Hargrave retired from American Can Company after more than 25 years of employment.

James Leroy Clifford, age 84 of Waller, passed away on October 16, 2006. Mr. Clifford was a veteran of both WWII and the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Alice M. Clifford; son, Steve Clifford and wife Colleen; daughters, JoAnn Pache, Robi Smith and husband Larry, and Joyce Clifford; sister, Florence Christiansen; 6 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

Peggy Lou (Slye) Miller, age 78 of Tomball, formerly of Waller, was born June 29, 1928. Peggy graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas in 1945. After graduation, the family moved to Waller County. Peggy continued her education at Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas. While visiting her parents in Waller, Peggy met Bennie F. Miller. They married March 1, 1947. Peggy was a stay-at-home mom who loved taking care of her family. She loved to cook, sew, do needlework, and loved to entertain. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a charter member of the Grace Evangelical Methodist Church.

Peggy passed away on October 7, 2006. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Gladys Slye; her husband, Bennie Miller; and an infant son, Gary Lee Miller. She is survived by her children, Deborah Slye Miller of Dallas, Mike Miller and wife Theresa of Waller, and Terry Miller and wife Donna of Manahawkin, New Jersey. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brian Rollings and wife Stephanie of Tyler, Brett Rollings of Maui, Hawaii, Krista Miller Olson and husband Bryan of Waller, Jordan and Matthew Miller of Manahawkin, New Jersey. Peggy is survived by her brother, Arthur Slye, Jr. and wife Chris; nephews, Larry Slye and wife Lynn, Eddie Slye and wife Debbie, Jerry Slye and wife Cindy; and niece, Sharon Smart and husband Greg.

W.E. Bill Breneman age 79, of Waller, Texas passed away October 7, 2006. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, W.A. and Annie Mae Breneman; and wife, Laverne Breneman. Susan Jean McFarlin Turner, age 49 of Bay Cliff, Texas, passed away on October 3, 2006. Jimmy McGill, age 71 of Hempstead, passed away on Sept. 28, 2006. Frank Tressie, age 62 of Hockley, passed away on Sept. 16, 2006. Mr. Tressie is preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Tressie; and brother, Pearce Glesson; and is survived by his wife, Shirley Tressie; step-daughter, Robyn Morris; step-son, Todd Short; sister, Dolores Shields; granddaughter, Laura Morris; and mother, Armilda Mae Tressie.

Frank was Operational Manager of G&W Water Company in Waller County. He was the Director of the Blue Bonnet Water District and was active in the Texas Rural Water Association and Amenca National Water Association (ANWA). He was also a member of the Waller Chamber of Commerce and Founder of the Orlando Association of Rugby.

Malinda Gaye Roberts Smith, age 40, of West Columbia passed away Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006 in Houston, Texas. Annie B. Mathes, age 71 of Waller, passed away on Sept. 2, 2006. Miss Mathes is survived by her brothers, Floy W. “Willie” Mathes and wife Marie, and Lewis “Bubba” Mathes; sister, Judy Mathes Kelley and husband Mike; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

August 13, 1919 – July 21, 2006

Albert Marvin (A. M.) McCaig was born August 13, 1919 in Madison County, Texas, near Normangee, to Albert Blakley McCaig and Donie Frances Williams McCaig. Following several years of ill health, he died peacefully on July 21, 2006.

He is predeceased by his parents; sister, Opal Inez Kruft; brothers Marlin, William, Gene and Donald; and grandson Raymond Clayton “Clay” Arnold, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Nina Lou Wilson McCaig; son, A. M. “Buddy” McCaig and his wife, Kitty; daughters, Nancy Yvonne Arnold, of Waller; Linda Sue Engel and her husband, Wally Engel, of Allen, Texas; and Betty Kay Hart and her husband, Don, of Waller. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Nancy Rae Arnold Smith and husband Jerry; David Scott Arnold; Amanda Blakley McCaig; Donald Edward McCaig; Sarah Len Somers de Avillez and husband Gustavo “Gus”; Matthew Russell Somers, serving with the United States Army; Elizabeth Leigh Hart; Thomas Wilson Hart; Rebecca Erin Hart, two step-grandchildren, Sarah Engel and David Engel; and one great-granddaughter, Ashlynn Smith. Also surviving him is his brother-in-law, Roy Kruft; sister-in-law, Theresa Helfrich McCaig; and dozens of cousins, nieces, nephews, all of whom knew him as Marvin. He also leaves many treasured friends.

He moved to the Brookshire area of Waller County in 1940, and on August 30, 1941, he married Nina Lou Wilson of Madisonville. They lived in Houston and San Antonio until he entered the Army. In 1945, they moved to Hockley, then to Waller, where they made their home. Both long-time members of Waller Baptist Church, he was, at the time of his death, Deacon Emeritus.

His was a life of community service, first as a charter member of the Waller Volunteer Fire Department and a city council member in the early days of Waller’s incorporation, and a faithful member of the Waller Lions Club for nearly forty years. As a charter member of the Waller Chamber of Commerce, he later served as president of that body.

In 1958, he was elected Waller County Commissioner, serving for two terms. He went on to serve as Waller city judge, two terms as justice of the peace, and nearly three terms as Waller County Judge, retiring near the end of his third term because of ill health. He became known around the community as simply “Judge.”

A. M. served on the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) for nine years, one year as president. He was an officer with the Sam Houston Council of the Boy Scouts of America, was a director for the Memorial Hospital System, and was on the advisory board for the Brenham State School. He also served for ten years as a director for Guaranty Bond State Bank in Waller.

In 2000, the Monaville Sons of Hermann selected him for the Humanitarian of the Year Award, and in 2005, he was inducted into the Blinn College Alumni Hall of Honor in Brenham.

A. M. and Nina owned a number of businesses in the community, beginning with a Sinclair service station in 1951, adding a Western Auto store in 1952. He and his partner, Roy Cook, owned McCaig-Cook Chevrolet in Hempstead, later selling the dealership to Lawrence Marshall. He was a real estate broker, and maintained farming and ranching enterprises for decades in Waller and Madison Counties.

Services will be held Monday, July 24, 2006 at 11:00am at Waller Baptist Church, with Dr. Charles Wisdom and Bro. Britton Kelley officiating, followed by internment at the Waller Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday, July 23, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m at Canon Funeral Home in Waller. Pallbearers are David Scott Arnold, Matthew Somers, Thomas Hart, Donald McCaig, Jerry Smith and Gus de Avillez.. Joe Winfred Pegoda, age 79 of Waller, passed away on July 16, 2006. Mr. Pegoda is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lula Pegoda; son, Joe Pegoda Jr.; 5 sisters; and 3 brothers; and is survived by his wife of 37 years, Bertha Joyce Kies Pegoda; 2 sons, Tommy and wife Beverly, and Adam; 1 step daughter, Cassandra and husband Alan; 1 step son, Craig and wife Sandy; grandchildren, Ryan Pegoda, Ryan Gaddy, Renee, Matthew, Kyle, Travis, Colton, and Blake; sisters, Birdette Alexander, Charlene Gorman, and Erie Cotton and husband James; and 1 brother-in-law, Everett Kies and wife Shelia.

Marie Wheeler was born in Houston, Texas to Charles and Vada (Reider) McDaniel. She grew up in Houston and attended schools there, graduating from Cypress Fairbanks High School in 1970. On September 25, 1970 she married Jim Wheeler in Houston. In 1973 they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where she eventually took a part time job as a school bus driver, a job she continued for the next twenty-five years, twelve of those years driving in Colorado since moving there in 1993. Mrs. Wheeler especially enjoyed interacting with the special needs children on her bus. She also enjoyed crocheting and cooking – she was a great cook! She had a love for life, a wonderful mother, and was also considered a “second mother” to countless others. Mrs. Wheeler, age 54, died Friday, July 14, 2006 at North Colorado Medical Center in the Hospice and Palliative Care Inpatient Unit.

Marie is survived by her husband, Jim Wheeler of Greeley, CO; two daughters, Rebecca Wheeler of Plano, TX and Rachael Van Nortwick and husband Andy of Plano; one sister, Gwen Emanuelson and husband Tom of Asuzu, CA; and three brothers, Velton McDaniel and wife Kay of Houston, TX, Ralph McDaniel and wife Sherry of Houston, TX, and Doyle McDaniel and wife Lynn of Trinity, NC. She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Delores Light; and a brother, Leroy McDaniel.

Priscilla Menke, age 88 of Hempstead, passed away on July 9, 2006. Mrs. Menke is preceded in death by her son Howard H. Menke; her husband, Theodore M. Menke; and brother, John Houston; and is survived by her former daughter-in-law, Jill Junek and her husband Tim; brothers, Joe Houston, and Harry Houston and wife Betty; nephew, Charlie Menke and wife Ann; grandchildren, Matthew Menke and wife Janet, Sarah Junek, and Emily Junek; great grandchildren, Howard Kyle Menke, and Magnolia Menke; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Priscilla spent 56 of her 88 years in Waller County. Born and educated in Maine, she met her husband in Sampson, New York while both were serving in the United States Navy during World War II. As a member of the Hempstead community, she served St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church on the vestry, as a Sunday school teacher, and baked countless turkeys for their annual bazaar. She was a founding member of the Waller County A & M Mother's Club and served in leadership roles with the Women's Study Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She will be remembered for her New England accent and sophistication, her steady sense of humor, and the gracious hospitality with which she served her family and friends. She loved her home and always told her family, "Well, they told me it was a mistake to move to Texas, but if I had it to do over, I'd make the same mistake again."

Angela Franquet Estrada, beloved wife, mother and grandmother went home to be with the Lord on July 8, 2006. She was born in Valencia, Spain on November 10, 1909. Preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and two brothers; her husband, James Estrada; and son, Captain James Peter Estrada. Survived by her daughter, Beatrice Hood and husband Dean; grandsons, Alan Hood and wife Lorie, and Douglas Hood of Houston; and daughter-in-law, Jane Estrada of Gulfport, Miss.; grandchildren, Tenderly, Angela, Alison, James P. Joseph Willis Wilder Godson Jr., age 81 of Navasota, passed away on June 14, 2006. He owned J.W. Godson Construction Co. in Houston for 50 years before retiring to Navasota in 1997. He was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather. He was a private pilot, an avid saltwater fisherman and the water skiing champion of Lake Travis.

Andy was born on December 4, 1936 on a farm in Hempstead, Texas. His dad died one month before he was six years old, leaving his mother with a small farm and nine children to raise.

He was raised in Hempstead and Waller County and had this testimony…that he had become a success in his own home town. He had a heart for Hempstead and declared that it would become known as “Hempstead, the town of Brotherly Love”. He has worked hard with the Hempstead Ministerial Alliance in order to bring Unity to our Community!

Andy was Senior Pastor of Lighthouse Word Church for 33 years, along with his wife Jeanie, of 51 years. He willingly shared the ministry that God gave him with all who would listen.

Pastor Andy went home to be with the Lord Saturday, May 20, 2006. He will be missed by all who knew him. But we have this assurance that he is rejoicing on the streets of Heaven today!

Frank William King III, age 64 of Waller, passed away on May 3, 2006. Mavis Godkin Peterson. Born January 28, 1915 on a farm near Pattison, Texas in Waller County to Elwyn and Mollie Smith Godkin. Moved to Houston, Texas on November 11, 1920. She married Olen Peterson on September 16, 1933. He died on August 25, 1983. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and an associate member of New Hope Methodist Church. She was a Past Matron and fifty year member of Waller Chapter #1047 order of the Eastern Star and member of Chaparral Genealogical Society. She was also a member of the Waller County Historical Commission and Society and wrote articles for their publications.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Olen Peterson, and sisters and brothers, Alice Wilson, Edith Smith, Minnie Barbee, Sydmore Godkin, End Long, and Ronald Godkin.

Myrtle Hart of Waller passed away in Cypress, Texas after a short illness. She was the loving mother of 6 children, grandmother of 14, and great grandmother of 20. Myrtle was preceded in death by her devoted and loving husband, Maurice, in 1993. During her life, Myrtle exhibited all the attributes of a loving Christian daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Her home was always open to anyone. Gracious gatherings were enjoyed by all who were blessed to know her and Maurice. Her favorite activities included attending church, singing, cooking, sewing, needlework projects, quilting, attending sporting events at school, holiday parties, and life.

Don Neil Brumlow, age 76 of Hempstead, passed away on April 16, 2006. Mr. Brumlow is survived by his wife, Janice Brumlow; son, Kenneth Allen Brumlow and wife Sylvia; brothers, Ray Brumlow and wife Roxie, and Freddie Brumlow and wife Ruby; and 3 grandchildren.

John H. “Jack” Rafferty, of Hempstead passed away on the 7th day of April, 2006, at the age of 84, from pulmonary fibrosis. He was born November 19, 1921 in Houston, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. Rafferty and Rena Rafferty Keaton, and one sister, Mary Rafferty.

Additionally, he is survived by two brothers, Hugh Rafferty and wife, Cathy; Patrick Rafferty and wife, JoAnn; sister, Rosemary Walker, all of Houston; and sister, Helene Geers of Brenham; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and a host of friends.

Rafferty, a Veteran who served his country during World War II with the 1278th Engineer Combat Regiment, 1st Army, also served in Okinawa during the Korean campaign as a Staff Officer in RYCOM Headquarters. Seven years later he returned to Korea and served with the 8th Engineer Batallion, 1st Calvery Division, deployed along the DMZ. During the Vietnam conflict, he worked in nuclear weapons R&D at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland. He retired from the Army as Lt Colonel on August 31, 1969, in Ankra, Turkey while serving as Logistics Officer, Joint United States Mutual Mission to Turkey. At his retirement ceremony, he was awarded the Legion of Merit by the US Secretary of the Army (2nd highest peacetime award) for his work in modernization of the Turkish Army Logistical System.

He served as County Road Administrator in Waller County from January 1, 1970 until his retirement on December 31, 1984. After retiring from Waller County, he was employed by Prairie View A&M University from 1986 until his retirement as Director of Telecommunications on January 31, 2003.

He was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Hempstead, Texas. Jack was also a dedicated member of the Hempstead Lions Club for over 35 years, having served Lions International as District Governor of the 7-county area around Houston in 1993 – 1994.

Clyde Wyatt Lloyd age 86 of Waller passed away on Saturday April 8, 2006. Mr. Lloyd was a Technical Sergeant with Company “E” 361^st Infantry and received the Distinguished Service Cross, The Italian Medal of Honor and Purple Heart.

He is survived by his wife Florence B. Lloyd; daughter, Sharon Griffin and husband Dennis; grandchildren, Darryl Griffin and wife Elizabeth, Brian Griffin and wife Christine, Kevin Lloyd Griffin and wife Emma; Great Grandchildren, Jade Griffin, Jessica and Lauren Griffin; great great grandchild Christian Griffin.

Merle Matzke Machac McMillan, age 73 of Hockley, passed away on April 6, 2006. Kieth Polk, 34, passed away on February 2, 2006. He was preceded in death by his father, David Polk. He is survived by his mother, Elaine Cherry; step father, Randy Cherry; sister, Michelle Polk; step brother, John Cherry and wife Christina; step sister, Robin Webb and husband Terry; niece and nephew, Bailey and Colton Webb; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Kieth attended Waller schools until his junior year of high school when the family moved to St. Charles, MO. He graduated from Francis Howell North High School and served 4 years in the Navy. He began active duty on the aircraft carrier Carl Vincent in the Persian Gulf at the end of the Gulf War. Kieth graduated from Texas A&M University with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He was presently employed by Jacobs Engineering, contracted out to Nasa Johnson Space Center. This was his dream job.

Thomas Lewis Threadgill, born February 28, 1941, passed away February 1, 2006 at age 64. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hill; son David Thomas Threadgill and wife Pricilla and their children Danielle Irene and Joseph Thomas; daughter, Anne Elizabeth Lindsay and husband Robert and their daughter, Tiffany; sisters, Dorothy McDonald, Sharon Mae Suskie, and Shirley Moore and husband Bill; and brother, Kenneth Threadgill.

Nelson Craig Poskie, age 53 of Pinehurst, passed away on January 27, 2006. William Teal Ford, 80, passed away Saturday, January 21st 2006. Born in Ben Hur, Texas, Jan. 14, 1927.

Served in U.S. Navy and Navy Reserve during World War II; upon returning, in 1946, Bill graduated from John H. Reagan High School in 1947. Attended University of Houston, married his High School sweetheart, Jimmie Flukinger in 1952.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Jimmie (Jean); daughters: Julie Dippel & husband Ron, Melanie Dugat & husband Jerry, Linda Baily. Sons: Michael Wm. Ford, Robert Paul Ford & wife Carol. Grandchildren: 16. Great Grandchildren: 21.

Opal Inez McCaig Kruft, age 79 of Waller, beloved wife, mother, Nana, Great-Grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, was called home by her Lord January 21, 2006. She is preceded in death by Donie McCaig, mother; Albert McCaig, father; and brothers, Donald, William and Eugene McCaig; and father-in-law, George Kruft. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years, Roy W. Jack Shannon, age 86, passed away on January 18, 2006. He was born January 22, 1919 in Gillum, LA. He lived in Houston for 67 years and graduated from Jefferson Davis High School. Jack played basketball under Coach Roy Needham. In WWII, he served in the 36^th Division, 141st Infantry, Company A. He worked as a cotton classer for the USDA and other companies. He was a member of Garden Oaks Baptist Church.

Mr. Shannon is preceded in death by his son, Kenneth A. Shannon; sister, Stella Brenham; and brother, John A. Shannon; and is survived by his sons, Mark D. Shannon and wife Lucy and Jack L. Shannon; devoted sisters, Mary Mims, and Catherine Jones; grandchildren, Karen Becerra, Karla Espinosa, Lucy Shannon, and Nicole Webb; great grandchildren, Alyssa Webb, and Jason Webb Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald Ray Curry, age 67 of Magnolia, passed away on January 16, 2006. Mr. Curry is survived by his wife, Barbara Curry; daughters, Michelle Hayes and husband Mike, Carol Tisdale and husband Andy, Vicky Phillips and husband Paul, and Sherry Bennett and husband Danny; sister, Linda Fontenot; 8 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

James A. (Red) Deel passed away on January 12, 2006 at the age of 78. He was born in Rotan, Texas on July 1, 1927. James is survived by his loving wife and partner of 56 years, Johnnie; son, Jerel and wife Gil; daughter, Joyce and husband Doyle; grandchildren, Michael, Brady and wife Christie, Cora, Cameron, and Cecily; great grandchildren, Tallon, Taylor, and Brittan. James is also survived by sisters, Louise Gill and Bunis Morykwas.

In addition to his family, James’ greatest joy was his 56 year career in the aviation industry. Following retirement from Superior Oil in 1985, he continued working at the Red Deel Aircraft in Waller, Texas.

Gertrude Walker, age 96 of Waller, Texas passed away on January 9, 2006. Mrs. Walker was born September 20, 1909 in Boyd, Texas and is preceded in death by her husband, Andrew E.
